Tariff

I use a tiered pricing structure based off the Musician's Union rate for teaching, which for the period 2022-2023 is set at per £38.50 per hour, resulting in the following tariff:

  • Hour lesson - £38.50
  • 45-minute lesson - £30
  • Half hour lesson - £21
  • Two hour lesson - £70

If budget is a concern, it is just as simple to schedule fortnightly lessons instead of weekly.
There are three methods by which my students pay for my services, each described below.

Payment method 1: Opt-In Students

Some of my students prefer to book each lesson individually using my online booking system (I provide them with a personalised link so names and other details needn't be entered each time).

This is the most simple method, since the scheduling process involves a payment step, and a booking can't successfully be made without it.

17% of my students choose this method.

Payment Method 2: Block Payments

The rest of my students prefer to schedule lessons on an opt-out basis, wherein they claim a slot in my schedule that recurs every week or fortnight (e.g. every Tuesday at 14:50), and rather than book each one individually to inform me of their attendance, they are conversely obliged only to mention only when they will not attend, at least 24 hours before the lesson is due to commence.

33% of my students do this by paying in blocks of ten lessons in advance. I keep track of these lessons by using my online calendar to set up a recurring event, to which I tag the student's E-mail address, and then I proceed to count off each lesson (e.g. "Mildred - 6 of 10"). This way the student and myself have access to the same records, and can also view them in retrospect.

Payment Method 3: Automatic Recurring Payments

The rest of my opt-out students prefer to pay for each lesson individually, but do not wish to have to book them individually when their lesson is on a predictable, recurring timetable, (e.g. every Thursday at 16:55). For these students I set up an automatic recurring payment via my payments system - Stripe. This functions very much like a direct debit.

I also add the following guarantee to these students, because I can understand why people might be made very squeamish by the very sound of "automatic recurring payments". The guarantee is that if I receive at least 24 hours notice of a lesson cancellation, I will either cancel the upcoming automatic payment, or if I fail to do so (by reading a message too late for instance), I will refund the fee.
